The paper represents a framework that can be followed while adopting Exchange Information Requirements for metro projects in Turkey. In contrast to the universal trend of implementing Building Information Model initially to superstructure projects, Turkey brought an obligation of BIM use for the first time in a metro project. Since 2014, metro projects tendered in Turkey, primarily in İstanbul, are BIM-mandated public projects. However, Employers have not yet developed organization-wide holistic standards to ensure delivered project will qualify their expectations. EIR define the requirements of the Employer regarding the content, delivery, and management of project related information including the roles and responsibilities of involved parties, applicable standards and milestones along the project lifecycle. Evolution of the Building Sector from Building Catalogs to BIM Catalogs

Mass production that emerged with the Industrial Revolution has radically changed both the production and circulation of building elements and components in the market, as in all sectors and products. Since 1870, building elements have been produced in factories, cataloged, exhibited in fair areas, and begun to be sold in construction markets. Important developments in information technologies have revealed developments in computer software. Building Information Modeling (BIM), one of the important developments in the construction industry, has become the technology that enables the building system to be modeled with "BIM Objects" based on the building components that set up the building. Today, manufacturers design building components as "BIM Objects" and present them to users in international BIM libraries. In this study, the continuity of the international classification and standards of building elements formed in the printed catalog process in BIM catalogs was emphasized, and the studies were reached in terms of literature research. This has become a new marketing strategy for manufacturers. Throughout the historical development of the building industry, it is aimed to reveal the importance of the development of the tools of access to the building elements together with the technology for the manufacturer and the designer. In Croatia, the voluminous project of legalization (of the illegally constructed buildings) has resulted-over the five years of implementation- in various dynamic processes in designing as such, in the surveying companies and in the state institutions when the surveying of the status quo situations in the cadastral land plots within the state is concerned.The above mentioned business entities are supported by software applications but they cooperate on the basis of their separate results. The only communication among them goes via the AutoCAD application. However, the software applications are as well developed separately since each technology has its peculiarities and even its scientific qualities thus being inaccessible for everymen in all its segments. For the purpose of integration, it is inevitable to set up the combined sciences teams to cover for all applications and to set up a networked unit. There is a series of integrating methods – such as MEP modeler, BREP, IFC and BIM – that, when supported by scientific procedures, are to contribute to enhancing of the data flow in the range from the data obtained in the field via the design data up to the databases in the respective state and business institutions. These indices of the economic quality of not only companies but the state institutions as well can be significantly improved. In other words, these integrative processes offer an opportunity as well for further scientific investigations and the development of the society in terms of automating it at the levels ranging from one single application to all respective projects.

Labor Productivity on Construction Sites: A Case Study of Biological Wastewater Treatment Plant Construction

The production efficiency of labor on construction sites is an important factor for the success of projects. Skills, experience, and training are among the critical factors affecting labor productivity on construction sites. Especially in construction sites where a new construction technique is used, the teams' efficiency is affected by the learning processes. Laborers' unfamiliarity with the new technique can cause time delays and, accordingly, cost overruns. This research examines laborers' challenges in building an unfamiliar structure at construction sites through a case study. With a comprehensive literature review, interactions between laborers' learning process for new structures and construction time estimation were examined, and the case has been evaluated accordingly. It was observed that the time estimation could not be predicted during an unfamiliar construction form such as examined in the field study. This study is aimed to set an example for the construction sites where new productions take place.

Beneficial Effects of 3D BIM for Pre-Empting Waste during the Planning and Design Stage of Building and Waste Reduction Strategies

The use of various tools for construction waste management throughout the planning and design (P&D) stage has several advantages. According to some research, building information modelling, or BIM, could be a valuable tool for predicting waste. This paper discusses how BIM could be used for pre-empting waste and reducing the course of the planning and design process of constructing a building. In Malaysia, a questionnaire survey of 340 construction experts was undertaken. Simultaneously, a regression analysis was carried out in order to determine the impact of BIM on the management of construction waste during the planning and design stage. This research could help many stakeholders in the construction industry to recognise various aspects of waste management, beginning with the planning and design stage of a project, which can be represented by designing a model that can be applied to mitigate waste during the construction of a building.

Understanding the Causes of Material Wastage in the Construction Industry

Recent studies have recognized material waste from construction projects as a serious problem for both economies and the environment. This research aims to identify the major causes of material waste in construction projects, determine the level of wastage for some selected materials and suggest strategies to manage and minimize wastage. In order to facilitate the application of this research, Jordan was taken as a case study. The results from 61 returned surveys suggested 49 factors which were then analyzed to identify the main causes of material wastage; the main factors are as follows: design changes during the construction phase, rework due to labor mistakes, purchases not complying with specifications, improper cutting of materials and poor site layout. The study concluded that the most important advantages of managing and minimizing material wastage are minimizing time and cost overruns and helping in determining the required quantities, thus leading to improved project performance.

Industry 4.0 is seeking to advance traditional construction practices towards more efficient and internet of things (IoT)-based construction practices, such as offsite construction. Offsite construction (OSC) allows for the simultaneous fabrication of building modules and onsite work. Integrating IoT technologies in construction practice is projected to improve the industry’s growth. However, there is an increase in cybersecurity vulnerabilities. Cyber threats are becoming more disruptive and targeted, resulting in monetary and infrastructure losses. Furthermore, the COVID pandemic and the instability in Europe have seen over 100% increases in cyber-attacks, and most industries have weak cybersecurity protocols.
