It’s a hot one! Thanks to this group, it doesn’t have to be a red one, too! They recommended having sunscreen stands installed at all Manatee County pools, parks and beaches to help residents block out the harmful rays of the sun and reduce the risk of melanoma. In response to 136 reported fatal opioid overdoses in 2022, Manatee County and partner agencies have distributed over 4,500 doses of naloxone and trained over 23,000 individuals to administer the life-saving medication. Today on Revive Awareness Day—supported by a Manatee Board of County Commissioners’ Proclamation—residents are encouraged to engage with community-based organizations to increase awareness regarding the hazards of opioids and the accessibility of naloxone as a mechanism for promptly reversing their effects. For more information about Manatee County’s Overdose Prevention and Education Program (OPEP), please call the Manatee County Health Services' team at 941-749-3505 or email ManateeOPEP@mymanatee.org.

Public Safety Deputy Director James Crutchfield, commended Maldonado for not only keeping up with an evolving world of medical services but leading the change. “You’ve been leading the way with us with groundbreaking changes and protocols. You’ve continued to show an exceptional commitment to excellence in the standards of service that we provide,” said Crutchfield. “As you embark on your new exciting chapter of life, know that you have left behind a legacy of service, compassion and dedication. A new adult learning center, located at 6812 Gulf of Mexico Drive, is in the works. The Longboat Key North Learning Center—an interlocal agreement between the School District and Manatee County—will be comprised of a multi-purpose room for community meetings, along with art and dance classes. The BOCC signed a lease in January and approved a design concept in March. Manhattan Construction is the contractor.
